The Veteran Car Club of South Australia is holding its 2nd Annual Two Day Rally in Strathalbyn, 50 km south east of Adelaide, on the weekend of Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd April, 2011.
To date (4 February - two months out) we already have twenty eight veterans entered, including two steamers - a 1906 White Model F Tourer and a 1907 Stanley K Roadster. Superb early veterans include two Cadillacs (a 1906 Cadillac Model K and a 1910 Cadillac 30 HP Tourer) and a 1905 Darracq Flying Fifteen fitted with a rear-entrance tonneau. Joining the Model K Cadillac will be other single cylinder cars (thus far a 1904/5 De Dion Model Y 6HP, a 1907 Rover 6HP Tourer and a 1909 Sizaire Naudin G tourer) and twins (for example a 1914 Humberette, a 1907 Maxwell Model RL Tourabout and a 1908 IHC D Auto Buggy). There is no shortage of style and grace among the more "modern" entrants: a 1913 Renault DM Tourer, a 1912 Delahaye Type 32 Roadster, a 1913 Straker Squire 15 HP Tourer, a 1914 Hupmobile 32 Tourer, a 1914 Napier Model T68 20HP Torpedo, winner of the Concours at the 2010 Bay to Birdwood Run, and no fewer than five Model "T" Fords, fitted with a range of body styles. Motorcycles will again be made most welcome, and so far we have two Rudges (a 1912 "Multi" and a 1913 750cc "TT Roadster"), a 1915 BSA Model K, a 1914 Triumph, and a 1914 Douglas. Two entrants are reprising their 2010 efforts by bringing machines which are neither car nor bike, but fall somewhere (!) inbetween. With three wheels each, the 1906 Phoenix Tricar (two wheels at the front, either side of the passenger seat) and the 1910 Phanomobile Roadster (one wheel at the front, atop which sits the motor with its whirring fan and clacking valves) have little else in common - both spectacular attempts which failed to win favour as motoring design evolved. Can you drag out a veteran to bring along? Hope to see you there! Information about the rally is contained in the PDF-format documents below:
